Legacy Architects Vision:
The ultimate vision with Legacy Architects is that Word documents and Excel spreadsheets are no longer a necessary part of your workflow.
Instead, all Client Details (asked via the intake form) and Client Decisions (asked via your design form/sheet) are housed, saved, edited, and managed inside the Legacy Architects contact record.
You and your clients can edit the contact record data at any time as you review information together or independently. You both will see the most up-to-date data at any given moment in the client's contact record. The online contact record essentially is the "Confirmation of Important and Missing Information" and the "Family Wealth Inventory" you are familiar with in the traditional paper-based workflow.
This said, you might desire at times to export data in the Legacy Architects contact record into a Word document or Excel spreadsheet for some reason. If so, consider that simply a way to export and print a "snapshot" of data at a specific moment in time. We encourage you not to think of exporting data to Word or Excel as a way to then use the Word document or Excel spreadsheet to dynamically manage, review, and edit data.
Note:
Think of Legacy Architects as a fully online way of showing the same information you would share in the Confirmation of Important and Missing Information (CIMI), Estate Plan Summary, or a similar document. Because we are not constricted by Word document formatting, how the information you are used to seeing in the CIMI appears is organized differently and more intuitively β by sections, tabs, and fields. Long story short, all tabs relate to data you would have in the CIMI, from the General tab to the People tab and so on.
Upcoming features to support the vision (not fully released):
Nine total tabs in every contact record: General, Family, Estate, Plan (will or trust questions), Incapacity, Guardianship, People, Files, and Supplemental.
Each one of these tabs contains sections and fields where data can be stored and documents can be uploaded.
Both Lawyer and Client can log into any contact record at any time and see in real-time all the most current data and documents, and can edit the data and documents in the contact record at any time.
Lawyer can "lock" the contact record so that Client's access is view-only to ensure that Client is not making further changes to their details or decisions while Lawyer is drafting their estate plan.
Workaround:
What we colloquially call the "Design Tabs" (Plan, Incapacity and Guardianship, plus all sections and fields within those tabs) are not fully functional as of yet.
To create the "Confirmation of Important and Missing Information" document, you have two options:
Export contact record data to Word: While this is doable, we do not recommend this because you have to then manipulate the formatting and content of the Word export to fit the traditional CIMI structure.
Have our team prepare the CIMI for you: Until the upcoming features noted above are released, our team is fully trained to prepare this Word document for you free of charge. We call our version the "Estate Plan Summary" and you will find it accomplishes the same goal you use the CIMI for. To have our team do this for you, complete this quick and easy request form.
